Born in 1887, Ad Santel was a a Legit Professional Wrestling World Light Heavyweight Champion. He represented Catch Wrestling in some of the most defining clash-of-the-styles matches in modern martial arts history defeating many of the greatest black belts of the Kodokan, the original Judo Academy.
His spectacular performances contributed to the raise in popularity of Catch Wrestling and fueled the fascination of the Japanese with this rough style of Grappling. Ad Santel was known for his powerful takedowns and masterful use of the Half Nelson, one of the techniques he would utilize to slam his opponents to the ground rendering them unconscious. Some of his signature submission moves were the bicep slicer and the toe hold.
