Euclydes “Tatu” Hatem (born on September 16, 1914) was a Brazilian Catch Wrestler and founder of Brazilian Luta Livre. He was a student of Catch As Catch Can Wrestling Coach: Rufino dos Santos, known for defeating Carlos Gracie in a Submission only match. Hatem was arguably the greatest Submission Wrestling competitor in Brazil during the 30’s and 40’s, famous for his dominating victories in Catch Wrestling and Clash of the Style Matches that positioned him as a fan favorite. He holds victories against George Gracie and Takeo Yano, (a student of Mitsuyo Maeda, and head of a non-Gracie BJJ lineage). Both Gracie and Yano later learned from Mestre Tatu. He retired on a long undefeated streak and spent the rest of his days teaching and building the basis of Brazilian Luta Livre.
